Set S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Did you ever think about what is the number one thing that holds us back and keeps us stuck when it comes down to achieving in life what we truly desire? What is the main cause of frustration and disappointment?
We are usually too busy, too caught up in every day battles. We don’t know how to get ahead, and instead just keep spinning our wheels.
And although most of us know that so much more is possible for us, we can’t quite figure out how to make that happen.
On top of this there is so much misinformation out there telling people about success without effort. All the get rich quick schemes, magic pills and other irrational promises, which make us forget about cause and effect.
But the thing that you must know is, that in the universe that we live in, there is no such a thing like cause without effect. No one can hand you your ideal life, there is no short cut.
However you must also know that you are fully capable to create it. Step by step.
Now, once you understand that, the next thing to ask yourself is what causes do you need to put in motion to create the effect that you are after? You must develop a plan that outlines what it’s going to take to achieve your desired future.
In all the strategic planning processes and different systems and methods, the one thing in common is goal setting. Learning how to do just that, set and accomplish goals, is the single most important skill that you can ever develop. That’s the key to get what you want out of life.
Brian Tracy calls it “The Master Skill Of Success”.

All successful people are goal oriented. And the most successful people in our society are in a habit of goal setting. It is not just a one time thing that they do, it’s a lifestyle. They set clear written goals on an ongoing basis and they focus on achieving these goals every single day.
The goal setting is a skill that you develop over time. And you can get better and better at it through practice. It’s like a muscle that you need to work out. The more you do it, the stronger you get.
In order to really achieve your goals you must understand that they are not wishes or hopes, but aims and desired results. They have certain qualities. So to be most effective you have to set S.M.A.R.T. Goals.
S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for:
S – Specific – Your goals have to be clear and specific. They must be easily describable to others. You need to know exactly what you want to achieve and have a very transparent picture of it in your mind.
M – Measurable – Your goals must be measurable and quantifiable. You must know when you’ve achieved them. They must be specific.
A – Attainable – Your goals have to be in the realm that you know you can actually accomplish in your life. Your emotions will tell you when the bar is set too high. You must believe that you can accomplish them. It is better to take small steps knowing that you can climb up them slowly, than not to have them done at all.
R – Rewarding – On the other side, set the goals high enough so that achieving them is going to be rewarding when you accomplish them. Make sure that the results energise you and excite you. That they provide you with fuel to do the work and keep you going. You have to really want it.
T – Time-Bound – Your goals must have deadlines. This is what makes them real. Deadlines create urgency. They put the pressure on you to get things done. And if you’re serious about achieving them, that’s exactly what you want. A goal without a deadline is a wish.

An example for a S.M.A.R.T. Goal would be: I will loose 10 kilograms/pounds by the end of March. Or: I will write 10 blog posts by the end of February. Or: By the end of this year I will generate $100k.
So stand on your own two feet, trust your judgement and your own intelligence. Become the primary driving force behind your desires and go out there and create the life you dream of.
